The Family Photos You Keep Putting Off Are the Ones You'll Never Have

After 12 years of working with families I’ve learnt that the ones who wait for the ‘perfect time’ rarely get there. And the ones who just bite the bullet and do it almost always come out the other side saying they can't believe they put it off for so long.

I want to share something that I’m not sure you’ve maybe thought about before…

There's always a reason to push family photos to later. Work is hectic. There’s kids sports training nearly every day after school. You want to lose a bit of weight first. You'll wait until the new baby is a bit older…And look, none of those reasons are stupid. Life is always full on.

But do you understand the longer you push it out, the more of this time goes undocumented? You probably won’t realise until it’s too late.

As a family photographer in Toowoomba and Brisbane I work with a lot of families who come to me saying they wish they'd done this sooner because they look at their kids in the images and realise how much they've already changed - how big they now are and they wonder where that little chubby faced bubba went. There’s a feeling of regret.

What a family session actually looks like

Majority of my family photo sessions happen at your home, in the backyard. That's actually my favourite way to shoot because your kids are already comfortable there, you're relaxed, and the whole thing feels less like a photo shoot and more like a really fun afternoon. And to be honest, my backyard was always one of my favourite places to be as a child. It feels very nostalgic for me.

We're talking natural light family photos, kids doing their thing, parents actually enjoying themselves rather than standing stiffly waiting to be told what to do. Candid family photography near Toowoomba is kind of my whole thing, and a home session is where that shines the most.

Sessions take an hour. Just one hour, and your family will walk away with a full collection of professional family photographs that you'll have for the rest of your life.
